Great SUV Hindered by Innumberable Flaws
by GJ AZ on Monday, July 22, 2024
Pros: 1) Fastastic handling (considering vehicle size) and smooth brisk acceleration from the big in-line six. 2) Styling - great looking vehicle. 3) Interior craftmanship is top notch - no rattles at 4,000 miles. 4) Towing capacity. Cons: 1) Four trips to dealership so far in 4,000 miles - none for regular maintenance. Two recalls and three voluntary "Special Service Program" fixes for our Turbo S Premium model. Towed in once after vehicle went into a safe mode where it wouldn't go faster than 10 MPH and threw five or six different error messages. 2) driver recognition system only works intermittently - when it fails, default is inexplicably to "Guest" versus "Driver 1," causing you to lose all your settings. You also have to give it 10-15 seconds to work (this is a really long time when you want to get somewhere expeditiously). 3) I am 5' 10" and I hit my head on the rear gate at max height if I don't duck down. I've never had this problem with any SUV before. 4) walk away lock only works intermittently, rendering the feature useless. Must press the button on the key fob for certainty. 5) very minimal storage for driver - a shallow center console and the door - that's it. 6) parking sensors seem to work intermittently, rendering the system untrustworthy - system doesn't reliably sense low items (e.g., old 10" curbs) or narrow items (e.g., poles) like our other vehicles do. 7) "i-stop" shuts down the engine at stop lights, etc. - reengagement is very noticable and unrefined to the point of comment from passengers. The i-stop cannot be permanently turned off - resets every time the car is started. 8) Premier towing package brake controller is mounted above your left knee - with predictable adverse consequences. 9) switch for hazzards is directly in front of the touch screen where your palm wants to rest as you engage the screen - we've inadvertently turned on the flashers several times as a result. 10) finally, after a remote start, the vehicle turns off when you open the door (for safety reasons apparently). This is our third vehicle with remote start, and the first with this nonsensical "safety feature" - yes, you really must restart the car a second time every time you use remote start. The list is longer, but you get the idea. Great car to actually drive - a shame the details are a not very well executed. - 5.0
Great Car
by Corey on Friday, May 16, 2025
The PHEV seems to have some issues but the 3.3T has been great. There are some infotainment and styling quirks like other cars, but nothing that’s too detracting. The drive is great. Plenty of power hauling a family of 4, dogs, 4 bikes, roof storage going up mountains. The rwd biased AWD works great. The inline 6 is smooth. Nice handling. Transmission was a little rough, but after the software update, feels much better. Exterior styling is nice. Interior could use a little more room. Mazda focused on a long elegant hood line to house a I6 that leaves less cabin room. Gas mileage has been high 20’s. It will do over 30 highway if you’re gentle. Overall I’d say 4.5/5. - 5.0
Luxury Feel car with 8 seats
by Krishnan V on Tuesday, February 27, 2024
I feel the luxury inside this car and has very good space in the 1st and 2nd rows, 3rd is only for Kids. We can accommodate 8 passengers with 27 Miles of EV. Most of my miles runs on EV. bought the car end of Dec, now it is 2800 miles 2nd time filled gas still 100 miles to go on Gas. Ev charging is also not cheap, now experiencing. Car is very smooth on EV and engine as well. Very good accelerators when we put it on Sport mode.
